Our Team

Sandy Dunne

Founder, Art Therapist, MAT, AThR

Hello.

I am a compassionate and non-judgmental art therapist with a background in education and learning diversity (supporting the mental and emotional well-being of neurodivergent adolescents). I have a strong interest in working alongside children and young people, parents and carers of children with disabilities, older adults, and individuals impacted by trauma, grief, and family violence.

For the past ten years I have been an active member of the West Heidelberg artistic community and, viewing my work through feminist and social justice lenses, am deeply committed to making art therapy accessible to everyone, I value the power of creating alongside others and the sense of belonging that art-making can foster. My experiences working in schools overseas have further shaped my practice, strengthening my respect for the diverse needs, values, and cultural contexts people bring to therapy.

I hold a Master of Art Therapy from La Trobe University and am registered as a mental health professional with ANZACATA and ACA. I use a person-centred, trauma-informed framework, drawing on neuroscience, psychodynamic theory, and strengths-based narrative approaches. I believe that you are the expert in your own life and that my role is to accompany you on your journey towards personal insight. Through the creative process, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, discover and activate inner resources, enhance your relationships with others and live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

You are enough.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or to book an appointment.

Art Therapist, MAT, AThR

Hello!

I work with children, adolescents, and their families who are experiencing school anxiety or struggling with school engagement. Like many of the young people I support, I also found school difficult, and those experiences have stayed with me into adulthood.

There are many reasons children struggle, but there are also many ways we can support them to build confidence and reconnect with a sense of curiosity and enjoyment in their learning. Art therapy offers a gentle, creative space where emotions can be explored safely and connection can grow.

In sessions, I use art and play to build trust, understand your child’s emotional world, and support them to develop coping skills while building on their strengths. I also involve parents and caregivers where possible, helping you and your child better understand each other and strengthen your relationship.

My work is shaped by both research and experience, particularly in supporting communication and emotional connection within families. No art experience is needed—the focus is on expression, not skill.

Before becoming an art therapist, I worked in disability support and community programs, which continues to inform my compassionate, person-centered approach. I hold a Master of Art Therapy and am registered with ANZACATA.

I’m also a naturally curious (and slightly over-ambitious) learner when it comes to art. I love exploring new ideas and creative processes, even if I don’t always get through my ever-growing list.

I welcome children, adolescents, and families seeking a gentle, creative approach to emotional wellbeing. If this feels like the right fit for your family, you’re invited to get in touch to arrange a time to talk.
