Our Team

Sandy Dunne

Founder, Art Therapist, MAT, AThR

Hello.

I am a compassionate and non-judgmental art therapist with a background in education and learning diversity (supporting the mental and emotional well-being of neurodivergent adolescents). I have a strong interest in working alongside children and young people, parents and carers of children with disabilities, older adults, and individuals impacted by trauma, grief, and family violence.

For the past ten years I have been an active member of the West Heidelberg artistic community and am deeply committed to making art therapy accessible to everyone, within feminist and social justice lenses. I value the power of creating alongside others and the sense of belonging that art-making can foster. My experiences working in schools overseas have further shaped my practice, strengthening my respect for the diverse needs, values, and cultural contexts people bring to therapy.

I hold a Master of Art Therapy from La Trobe University and am registered as a mental health professional with ANZACATA and ACA. I use a person-centred, trauma-informed framework, drawing on neuroscience, psychodynamic theory, and narrative approaches. I strongly believe that you are the expert in your own life and that my role is to accompany you on your journey towards personal insight. Through the creative process, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, discover and activate inner resources and live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

Art Therapist, MAT, AThR

Hi.

I am deeply inspired by how art can heal, connect, and help us understand ourselves and one another.

Before becoming an art therapist, I worked in disability support and community programs, supporting individuals and families both day-to-day and during times of crisis. This experience continues to shape my person-centred, compassionate approach to therapy.

I am a qualified art therapist with a Master of Art Therapy, and I am professionally registered with ANZACATA. This registration ensures I practice ethically, engage in ongoing professional development, and receive regular clinical supervision to support safe and effective therapy.

My art therapy practice is grounded in attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and a strengths-based approach. I value the unique relational space that art therapy creates: a space where emotions can be explored safely, trust can grow, and connection can be strengthened through creative expression. No art experience is needed; the focus is on the process and expression, not artistic skill.

My Master’s research explored how art therapy can support communication and emotional attunement, particularly within sessions involving parents and children. This work continues to inform how I support relationships and emotional well-being in my practice.

I welcome individuals, children, and families who are seeking a gentle, creative approach to mental health and emotional support. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to book a session.
